2022 Walk Summary
|
|
|
Last updated
23/04/2022 |
Because of the Covid 19 pandemic I
have changed my frequency of walks, before the pandemic I walked
several times each week and kept a detailed record of the walk
which was reproduced on my walk summary page, it wasn't difficult to
keep up to date but during the pandemic I started walking every
day as part of my excercise routine. The walks were mostly short walks
and very repetitive. At first I managed to write and type out the
details of each walk and usually it was the same walk each day.
This year I have got further
and further behind and realised that the time has come to redesign the
page. Listed below are brief details of each walk displayed with a
white background. This makes it easier for me and I hope to be able in
the future to add a more detailed summary of the more interesting
walks and this will be indicated by a blue hyperlink.

Route - Knutsford -
Tatton Mere - Melchett Mere - The Temple - Tatton Hall

|
Twelve of us set off from Knutsford and headed into Tatton
Park, the weather looked promising with some blue skies.
We followed the path past Tatton Mere and Melchett Mere
stopping for coffee overlooking the water. We passed The
Temple in the grounds and then through the woods and
fields we eventually entered the courtyard where we
stopped to eat our lunch. Afterwards we headed across the
Deer Park as the skies became overcast and after passing
the Old Hall we entered Dog Wood as the rain started. A
woodland walk eventually brought us back into Knutsford
and our starting point in the car park. Many thanks to
Janet for leading this lovely walk. The rest of our group
were Bill, Ken, Alan, David P, Marilyn, Linda, Shirley,
David I, Peter C, Monica and Susanna. |

Route - Danebridge -
Wincle Grange - Nettlebeds - Mareknowles - Wincle Minn -
Cleulow Cross - Wincle Church - Danebridge |
|
Eight
of us set of on a stormy morning from Danebridge and
headed up the field paths past Wincle Grange to
Nettlebeds, a long steady ascent us past Mareknowles where
we stopped for quick coffee break in the rain then it was
on up the hill onto a stormy Wincle Minn.
A walk along the
tarmac lane was a welcome relief from the muddy paths for
while before we joined the field paths again passing
Spring Fields Farm and encountering some of the muddiest
fields and paths we have been on for a long time.
Eventually we joined the A54 which we walked along to
Cleulow Cross and then it was down the lane to Wincle
Church, hoping for some shelter to eat our lunch. Alas we
could find nowhere so a decision was made to continue on
back to the start in Danebridge.
A good walk in
stormy weather with plenty of mud and great company. Many
thanks to Peter C for leading the walk, the others in the
group were David I, Sam, Peter E, Georgie, Rebecca, Sophie
and David P. |

Four
of us, Kevin, Richard, Alan and myself David set off from
Grasmere on a lovely sunny day and headed up the hillside
to Stone Arthur and then over Great Rigg to the summit of
Fairfield. Great views all round in the sunshine but it
was very windy. We then descended down the path towards
Grisedale Tarn stopping near the Col for lunch in a
sheltered place. Then it was a very steep ascent up the
side of Seat Sandal and then back down an easier path to
Grasmere. An excellent days walk and many thanks to Kevin
for driving us. |

Richard and I set off from the layby near the Leathers

across to Stockport and Manchester. The track led us
through the forest past Ferriser the ruined farmhouse and
then out onto the road junction by Standing Stone car

back into the forest. The path led through the forest to

Seven of us set off from
the Leathers Smithy, Langley and followed the paths and tracks
around Ridgegate Reservoir and over Nessit Hill to Piggford
Moor, a steep climb up to the summit of Shutlingsloe gave us
some magnificent views across the surrounding countryside. An
easy descent brought us back down to the moor and then it was
along the path and over the summit of Buxtors Hill and down to
Standing Stone car park.
A walk along the quite
lanes then took us to Forest Chapel where we stopped for lunch
in the Churchyard. Afterwards Charity Lane took us up the
hillside and into the forest to the ruined Dimples Farmhouse.
An easy walk down the track took us down to Leathers Smithy
and the start of the walk.
Many thanks to

Seven
of us set off from Danebridge as the overnight rain

magnificent views out over the Cheshire Plain. An ideal

the ridge and then descended down into the forest and
visited Luds Church, a deep chasm used as a as a secret
place of worship for Lollards, reforming Christians who
were opposed to many practices of the Roman Catholic
Church who were persecuted for their beliefs. Once through
the chasm we followed the path down to the
River Dane where we stopped for lunch under the trees as
the occasional shower passed over. A path then took us
along the Dane Valley Way and eventually back to the cars
at Danebridge.

Route - Rushton
Spencer - Barleigh Ford Bridge - Dumkins - Wincle Grange -
Wincle- Danebridge - Gig Hall - Dane Valley Way- Rushton
Spencer |
|
Just
two of us set off from Rushton Spencer as the poor
forecast and road conditions reduced our numbers. Alan B
and I set off along the field paths to Barleigh Ford
Bridge then it along the Gritstone Trail to Dumkins where
we stopped for a coffee break. Dark clouds were gathering
to the west so the planned route up to Bosley Minn was
changed to and easier one and we carried on along
the field path to Wincle Grange and then down past the
Ship Inn to Wincle Brewery where we stopped for lunch.
Snow showers came and went for the rest of the afternoon
as we followed the Dane Valley Way back to Barleigh
Ford Bridge and then back over the fields to Rushton
Spencer. Many thanks to Alan B for joining me on this six
mile snowy walk which was enjoyable despite the snow
showers. |
